- This delegate is presenting an abstract at this event.
Dr. Heikki Hyöty is working as the professor of virology in the University of Tampere, Finland. His research has focused on the role of microbes in the pathogenesis of immune-mediated diseases such as type 1 diabetes and allergy. He has carried out epidemiological studies to evaluate the impact of microbes on the risk of these diseases and studied the underlying mechanisms in experimental models. One of the main projects deals with the role of viruses in the pathogenesis of type 1 diabetes. He has coordinated international research projects and has an active role e.g. in the TEDDY, PEVNET, nPOD and DIPP studies.
